Born and raised in Toronto, Emerald is an enthusiastic member of the city’s Chinese community. She speaks and writes fluent Chinese which she learned over 12 years of Chinese language school. It was her Chinese watercolour classes that opened her eyes to the world of visual arts. In 2007 Emerald graduated with highest honours from the York University/Sheridan College Joint Design program with a Bachelor of Design. After graduating as top student, Emerald joined Gravity Inc., a boutique design firm in Toronto. As Senior Designer, she takes pride in supporting many not-for-profit clients, as well as government ministries and corporate clients. Her work in print and digital media has won the accolades of her clients and has garnered many awards including editorial awards in Applied Arts, award of distinction for web design in Communicator Arts and silver award in E-Health Web Awards. As well, Emerald’s work has been featured in publications such as Applied Arts, Design Edge, Rockport Publications and RGD’s Logo agenda. In 2012 Emerald earned her Registered Graphic Designer (RGD) designation.
Even in her spare time Emerald gravitates towards creative pursuits. Her hobbies include designing and illustrating original story books and creating hand-crafted keepsakes. In the summer, you’ll find her riding along side her bike-crazed husband and the winter, she’ll be doodling away under a cozy warm blanket. She loves to cook but when she’s eating out at restaurants, watch out, she’s often heard critiquing poorly designed menu boards!
